National News – The Nigeria Immigration Service has arrested 125 foreign nationals in Lagos over alleged immigration violations, with 82 set for immediate repatriation.
The arrests were carried out on March 30, 2026, during a joint operation with the Nigeria Police Force across areas including Agege, Alimosho, Ebute Metta, and Badagry.
Authorities say the move is part of efforts to strengthen internal security and enforce migration laws.
According to Assistant Comptroller-General Mohamed Adamu, the suspects include 100 nationals from the Republic of Niger and 25 from Mali.
He explained that 43 individuals possessed valid ECOWAS travel documents and biometric identity cards, while 82 lacked proper documentation, residence permits, or identifiable means of livelihood.
These undocumented individuals have been classified as prohibited immigrants under the Immigration Act 2015 and will be deported.
Adamu stated that the operation was intelligence-driven and conducted professionally, ensuring compliance with human rights standards.
He emphasised that the crackdown is ongoing and aimed at reducing crime and enhancing national security.
“The goal is to ensure that all entrants into Nigeria comply with immigration laws,” he said.
The Lagos State Comptroller of Immigration, Chris Onojinrin, confirmed that the repatriation process would be completed within 48 hours after due administrative procedures.
Authorities also reiterated that Nigeria remains open to foreigners who follow legal entry and residency requirements.
The operation highlights the government’s intensified focus on border control and urban security management, particularly in high-density areas of Lagos.
Officials believe stricter enforcement will help curb criminal activities linked to undocumented migration while promoting lawful business and residency practices.
