National News – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has concluded the second phase of its nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, recording a total of 3,748,704 completed registrations.
The exercise, which ended on April 17, 2026, was conducted across Nigeria to prepare for the 2027 general elections.
According to INEC, the registrations combined both online pre-registration and physical verification at designated centres, reflecting sustained public participation in the electoral process.
INEC explained that out of the total figure, 2,259,288 Nigerians completed their registration through the online portal, while 1,489,416 finalised the process physically at registration centres nationwide.
The commission, however, noted that the figures remain provisional and subject to further verification to ensure the integrity of the voter register.
The CVR exercise, which began its first phase on August 18, 2025, and ended on December 19, 2025, resumed for a second phase on January 5, 2026, before concluding in April.
Following the completion of registration, INEC has now shifted focus to the display of the voter register for claims and objections.
The commission announced that this verification stage will take place from April 29 to May 5, 2026, at designated centres nationwide.
This phase is designed to allow registrants to confirm their personal details, correct errors, and report irregularities such as duplicate entries, deceased individuals, or non-citizens included in the register.
INEC urged all eligible Nigerians who participated in the registration process to actively engage in the verification exercise to enhance the credibility and transparency of the electoral system.
The commission emphasised that maintaining a clean and accurate voter register is essential for conducting free, fair, and credible elections in the country.
It also assured the public that details regarding the third phase of the CVR exercise will be announced in due course as preparations for the 2027 polls continue.
