Nigerian Army Announces Live Fire Exercise in Plateau, Urges Residents Not to Panic

National News – The Headquarters of 3 Division, Nigerian Army, has announced plans to conduct its annual Range Classification Exercise at the 3 Division Small Arms Range, Miango, in Bassa Local Government Area.

According to a press release issued by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Olumide Victor Olukoya, the exercise is scheduled to take place from Monday, April 20 to Friday, May 8, 2026.

The Nigerian Army stated that the annual Range Classification Exercise is designed to evaluate and enhance the marksmanship skills and firing capabilities of officers and soldiers within the Division.

The exercise, which forms part of routine military training, is aimed at maintaining high standards of operational proficiency among personnel.

The statement further disclosed that participants will be using live ammunition during the exercise, emphasizing the importance of safety measures throughout the period.

Consequently, the Army has advised residents of Miango and surrounding communities in Bassa Local Government Area to stay away from the designated training area for their safety.

The military also urged members of the public not to panic upon hearing gunshots during the exercise, noting that the firing activities are planned and controlled.

The Headquarters 3 Division further called on media organizations to assist in disseminating the information widely to ensure public awareness and safety.

It also encouraged the translation of the advisory into local languages to enhance understanding within affected communities.

The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to public safety and thanked residents for their cooperation during the training period.
