National News – Suspected bandits abducted a traditional ruler, his wife, and another resident during a midnight attack in Olayinka community, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The incident occurred around 1:40 a.m. on Saturday when armed assailants stormed the palace of Oba Salman Aweda, firing gunshots to scare residents before whisking the victims away to an unknown location.

The attack has heightened fears of insecurity in the region, especially as the monarch was recently elevated and officially installed by the state government.

According to local sources, the attackers arrived heavily armed and operated without resistance due to the panic their gunfire caused.

Residents said the sudden invasion left the community helpless, as no one could challenge the assailants during the operation.

The abduction has sparked widespread concern among villagers, many of whom are now calling for urgent security intervention to prevent further attacks.

The Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government Area, Abdulrasheed Yusuf, confirmed the incident and described it as disturbing.

He stated that security agencies, alongside forest guards and local vigilantes, have launched a coordinated search-and-rescue mission across nearby forests and neighbouring communities.

The operation aims to locate the abductors and ensure the safe release of the monarch, his wife, and the third victim.

Authorities have appealed to residents to remain calm and support ongoing efforts by providing credible intelligence.

Community cooperation, officials say, is vital in tackling rising cases of banditry and restoring peace in affected areas.

The incident underscores growing security challenges in parts of Kwara South, with stakeholders urging the government to strengthen surveillance, deploy more personnel, and enhance rapid response mechanisms.

Observers warn that without decisive action, such attacks could become more frequent, further threatening lives and stability in rural communities.
