National News – Nigeria’s U-20 women’s national team, Falconets, have intensified preparations in Abuja, Nigeria, ahead of their FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup final qualifying first-leg clash against Malawi scheduled for May 2, 2026.

The team, coached by Moses Aduku, is targeting qualification for the tournament in Poland 2026.

The match is crucial as Nigeria seeks to continue its strong run after defeating Rwanda and Senegal in earlier rounds, maintaining momentum and national pride.

The squad has been in an intensive training camp in Abuja, focusing on tactical discipline, team cohesion, and match readiness under close supervision of the coaching crew.

Aduku confirmed that all invited players are available and injury-free, while stressing that preparation has reached an advanced stage.

The Falconets previously overcame Rwanda 5–0 on aggregate and Senegal 3–1 on aggregate to reach this stage, boosting morale, confidence, and belief within the team as they prepare for the decisive tie.

The technical crew are also working on set-piece routines and player positioning to ensure balance between attack and defense.

Malawi, their opponent, arrive with strong form after a 6–2 aggregate win over Guinea Bissau, showing attacking strength and resilience.

The first leg will be played in Nigeria on May 2, while the return leg will hold in Lilongwe on May 9, 2026.

Both teams are competing for a ticket to the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland, making the tie highly competitive and decisive. Fans and stakeholders expect a tightly contested encounter given both teams’ recent performances.

Coach Aduku expressed confidence in his team’s readiness, noting that the focus has shifted to tactical execution, mental strength, and game management.
