National News – The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has apologised to candidates for the delay in releasing the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results.

The results, expected on Saturday, April 18, 2026, were postponed after exams held on Friday, April 17.

The delay affected thousands of candidates across Nigeria who had been waiting anxiously to check their scores.

JAMB, through its spokesperson Fabian Benjamin, explained that the delay occurred because its chief executive officer was unavailable due to an official engagement.

The board assured candidates that the results would be released later on Sunday before nightfall, urging patience and understanding from affected students and their families.

The board acknowledged the frustration caused, especially among candidates who stayed up late expecting the results as earlier announced.

JAMB emphasised that the delay was not intentional but due to circumstances beyond its immediate control.

The examination body reiterated its commitment to transparency, accuracy, and timely communication in handling UTME results nationwide.

Earlier, JAMB had successfully released the first batch of UTME results for candidates who sat for the examination on Thursday, April 16, 2026.

According to the board, a total of 632,788 results were processed and made available without issues, demonstrating its readiness to manage the nationwide examination exercise efficiently.

Candidates awaiting their results have been advised to check via SMS by sending “UTMERESULT” to 55019 or 66019 using the phone number used during registration.

JAMB noted that this remains the official and secure method for accessing UTME scores, warning candidates against relying on unofficial platforms.

The UTME remains a critical examination for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria, making timely release of results essential for candidates planning their academic future.

JAMB reassured stakeholders that measures are in place to prevent future delays and improve operational efficiency.
