National News – Russian security services have arrested a German woman accused of carrying a homemade explosive device in a backpack in Pyatigorsk, a city in the Stavropol region of southern Russia, in an alleged plot linked to Ukraine.
The Federal Security Service (FSB) said the suspect, born in 1969, was detained on Monday, April 20, 2026, after intelligence indicated a planned attack on a law enforcement facility.
Authorities claimed she was allegedly recruited through a Central Asian national acting on instructions connected to Ukrainian operatives.
According to the FSB, the improvised explosive device contained an explosive charge equivalent to about 1.5 kilograms of TNT and was intended to be remotely detonated near a security services building.
Officials further stated that electronic jamming equipment prevented the blast from being triggered.
The agency also alleged that the suspect was manipulated into participating in the operation, which was described as part of a wider sabotage campaign amid ongoing tensions related to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
No independent verification of the claims has been provided, and Kyiv and Berlin had not responded at the time of reporting.
The FSB said the alleged plot was prevented after surveillance and electronic countermeasures detected suspicious activity near the targeted site in the Caucasus region.
The agency stated that a man identified as a Central Asian national, born in 1997, was also arrested near the suspected target location.
Officials alleged he supported radical ideology and was part of the coordination effort.
The security service claimed the attack was intended to target a law enforcement facility in the Stavropol region, raising concerns over sabotage attempts within Russian territory during the ongoing war.
Authorities said both suspects now face terrorism-related charges that could carry life imprisonment if convicted.
The FSB further claimed that similar incidents have been foiled in recent months, pointing to a pattern of alleged cross-border recruitment for sabotage operations.
However, these allegations remain disputed internationally, with Ukraine previously denying involvement in such attacks and Western governments often questioning the credibility of Russian accusations.
