National News – Three persons have been confirmed dead following a tragic auto crash at the Polo Roundabout in Jos.
The fatal incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, April 20, 2026, around 2:30 a.m., according to officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps.
The victims, identified as the truck driver and two other occupants, reportedly died on the spot after the vehicle lost control and rammed into the roundabout.
The FRSC Public Education Officer in Plateau State, Peter Longsan, confirmed the development, explaining that the crash was caused by loss of control, possibly worsened by poor visibility and fatigue at night.
He stated that emergency responders arrived quickly but could not save the victims due to the severity of the impact.
Eyewitness accounts described a sudden and devastating scene. A nearby security guard said he heard a loud bang as the speeding truck veered off course and crashed violently.
Another witness noted that the quiet road turned chaotic within seconds, with dust, panic, and cries filling the air as bystanders rushed to help.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine additional contributing factors.
Meanwhile, the FRSC has renewed its call for motorists to prioritise safety by avoiding excessive speed, especially during late-night travel.
Drivers are also advised to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on journeys and to strictly follow traffic regulations.
The incident highlights growing concerns about road safety across Nigeria, as similar crashes continue to claim lives.
The FRSC stressed that adherence to safety measures, including avoiding overloading and reckless driving, remains crucial in preventing avoidable tragedies.
