National News – Vice President Kashim Shettima on Tuesday in Kaduna inaugurated a newly completed 1,000-capacity banquet hall built by the Kaduna State Government, praising Governor Uba Sani for what he described as a blend of infrastructure and institutional strengthening aimed at improving governance and public engagement in northern Nigeria.
Speaking at the ceremony, Shettima said the project reflects federal–state cooperation and noted that Kaduna’s strategic position makes it central to Nigeria’s political and economic stability.
He said the Federal Government would continue supporting projects that enhance governance capacity and regional development.
Governor Uba Sani explained that the facility, built on about 2.7 hectares with modern conference infrastructure, was designed to host diplomatic events, policy dialogues and international conferences as part of efforts to reposition Kaduna as an investment and cultural hub.
Local reactions in Kaduna have been largely positive, with some residents and civil society voices viewing the project as a symbol of improved governance focus on legacy infrastructure rather than short-term political optics.
However, others argue that while such facilities enhance the state’s image, more urgent investments are still needed in security, education and rural development due to persistent banditry and economic pressure in surrounding communities.
The inauguration also underscores Kaduna’s growing role as a regional diplomatic and business destination in northern Nigeria, with expectations that such infrastructure could attract conferences, boost hospitality revenues and improve interstate visibility.
Analysts note that beyond symbolism, the effectiveness of such projects will depend on how they are maintained and integrated into broader governance reforms.
The development adds to ongoing debates about balancing prestige projects with immediate socioeconomic needs across Nigerian states.
Observers further suggest that the hall may serve as a soft-power tool for Kaduna, potentially strengthening intergovernmental relations and attracting foreign delegations if security conditions continue to improve.
However, sustained public value will depend on transparency in usage, accessibility for citizens, and consistent alignment with development priorities across the state rather than elite-only functions which remains a key public concern in Kaduna.
