National News – The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has intensified its offensive against insurgency in northeastern Nigeria, destroying multiple terrorist hideouts in Borno State through targeted airstrikes.

The operation, carried out on Friday evening around 6:50 pm, focused on the Southern Tumbuns area, particularly Ali Sheriffti, following credible intelligence on insurgent movements and activities.

According to Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, who disclosed the development in Abuja, surveillance missions tracked suspected fighters navigating concealed routes before converging in structures hidden under dense vegetation.

Once verified, air assets engaged the targets with precision munitions, successfully dismantling the hideouts and disrupting operational capabilities.

The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, reiterated the military’s commitment to sustained pressure, emphasizing that no terrorist enclave would remain beyond reach.

This development highlights a continued reliance on intelligence-led warfare to weaken insurgent networks in the region.

From a local perspective, residents in parts of Borno have expressed cautious optimism.

While some see the strikes as a necessary step toward restoring peace, others worry about potential displacement and collateral risks.

Civil society observers also note that while airstrikes can degrade militant infrastructure, long-term stability requires coordinated ground operations, rehabilitation programs, and community engagement.

Security analysts argue that the latest operation reflects improved coordination between intelligence gathering and combat execution.

However, they warn that insurgent groups often adapt quickly, dispersing into smaller units to evade detection.

This raises questions about how sustained and adaptive the military strategy must be to achieve lasting results.

The broader implication is clear: Nigeria’s fight against terrorism remains active and evolving.

While tactical victories like this boost morale and demonstrate capability, the challenge lies in converting them into strategic gains that ensure lasting security for civilians in the Northeast.
