National News – LG Electronics has launched a smart dehumidifier in Nigeria to tackle rising indoor humidity levels, poor air quality, and growing health risks.
The product was unveiled on Wednesday in Abuja, targeting households and businesses affected by excessive moisture, particularly during the rainy season in densely populated urban centres.
The company said the move responds to increasing concerns about mould growth, property damage, and respiratory health issues linked to damp environments.
At the launch, Head of Corporate Marketing, Paul Mba, explained that the appliance can extract up to 30 litres of moisture daily, significantly improving indoor conditions.
He noted that the device uses Dual Inverter Compressor technology to automatically adjust performance based on real-time humidity levels, ensuring energy efficiency while maintaining comfort.
According to him, the innovation is designed for both residential and commercial use across Nigeria.
Assistant Product Manager Yeeun Kim highlighted that many Nigerians underestimate the long-term effects of high humidity on health and property.
She stressed that the smart dehumidifier offers a practical solution tailored to Nigeria’s tropical climate, helping to reduce allergens, bacteria, and dust through its HEPA H13 filtration system.
Further details from product specialist Gbenga Ogunbayo revealed that the device operates quietly at about 33 decibels, making it suitable for bedrooms and office spaces.
Two variants—34-litre and 28-litre capacities—were introduced, both featuring smart connectivity through LG ThinQ technology, allowing users to monitor and control humidity remotely via smartphones.
Fouani Nigeria Ltd confirmed nationwide availability, with showroom demonstrations and after-sales support.
Meanwhile, health expert Hakeem Mukhtar warned that unchecked mould growth remains a major but overlooked public health threat in humid regions like Nigeria, where poor ventilation worsens indoor air conditions.
