National News – The Supreme Court of Nigeria will deliver judgments on Thursday, April 30, 2026, in two major political appeals involving the African Democratic Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party.

The rulings, confirmed through the court’s official cause list, come amid rising tensions over internal party leadership disputes ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The ADC case is scheduled for 2 pm, while the timing for the PDP appeal remains undisclosed.

The appeals stem from prolonged leadership crises within both parties.

In the ADC case, former Senate President David Mark is contesting a Court of Appeal decision delivered on March 12, 2026.

The ruling had directed all parties to maintain the status quo in a dispute involving a rival faction led by Nafiu Bala Gombe.

Mark argues that the appellate court exceeded its jurisdiction, insisting the matter is an internal party issue that should not be subject to judicial interference.

The case was heard on April 22, 2026, by a five-member panel led by Justice Mohammed Garba, who reserved judgment after arguments were presented.

Legal representatives of the ADC have since urged the court to act swiftly, citing concerns over the party’s eligibility for the 2027 elections.

In a letter dated April 28, 2026, counsel warned that delays could disrupt compliance with electoral guidelines set by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

According to the lawyers, recent actions based on lower court rulings have left the ADC without recognised leadership, potentially threatening its participation in upcoming polls.

They emphasised that millions of party supporters risk disenfranchisement if the judgment is delayed.

The outcome of both appeals is expected to clarify party leadership structures and shape Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of 2027, highlighting the critical role of the judiciary in electoral processes and internal party governance.
