National News – Bola Ahmed Tinubu has elevated Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu to the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs, replacing Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, who resigned to pursue his 2027 governorship ambition in Bauchi State.
The development was announced on Wednesday by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, confirming a reshuffle within Nigeria’s foreign policy leadership.
The Presidency stated that the move is part of broader efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic strategy and global engagement.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu, a former ambassador to Spain and Italy, previously served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs since 2023.
Her promotion reflects her experience in diplomacy and longstanding involvement in Nigeria’s international relations.
She is also widely known as the widow of the late statesman Emeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu.
In a related development, Tinubu nominated Sola Enikanolaiye as the new Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, subject to Senate confirmation.
Enikanolaiye previously served as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and has over three decades of diplomatic experience, including postings in Addis Ababa, Ottawa, London, and New Delhi.
The Presidency emphasized that both appointments are aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s foreign policy architecture, promoting economic diplomacy, and strengthening international partnerships.
Tinubu urged the new appointees to prioritize national interests, improve regional stability, and ensure the welfare of Nigerians globally.
