National News – The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has urged Nigerian Christians to pray for peace, unity and national progress as they celebrate Easter across the country.
Abbas made the call on Saturday, April 4, 2026, in a goodwill message marking the Christian celebration of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
In the Easter message issued in Abuja, the Speaker congratulated Christians on successfully completing the Lenten season, a period of fasting, reflection and spiritual preparation that leads to the Easter celebration.
The message was conveyed through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Krishi.
According to Abbas, Easter represents sacrifice, selflessness, obedience and love—virtues demonstrated by Jesus Christ during His crucifixion and resurrection.
He encouraged Christians to emulate these values in their daily lives to help strengthen peace, stability and national unity in Nigeria.
The Speaker also called on Christians to continue praying for the country and the administration of President Bola Tinubu, stressing that spiritual support remains important in addressing the nation’s socio-economic, political and security challenges.
Explaining the importance of faith in national development, Abbas noted that prayers have historically played a role in seeking divine intervention during difficult times.
He said Nigerians should remain hopeful and committed to building a peaceful society despite ongoing national challenges.
He further urged citizens to embrace tolerance and mutual respect regardless of their religious or ethnic backgrounds.
According to him, unity among Nigerians is essential for national progress and social harmony.
Abbas also described the coincidence of Ramadan and Lent in 2026 as a unique opportunity for Muslims and Christians to strengthen unity and promote shared values of sacrifice, discipline and compassion.
He expressed optimism that collective prayers and cooperation among Nigerians would contribute to overcoming the country’s economic and security concerns.
The Speaker concluded his message by wishing Christians a peaceful, joyful and spiritually fulfilling Easter celebration, while encouraging them to continue working for the unity and development of Nigeria.
