National News – Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has appointed Alhaji Shamsudeen Adebayo Apelogun as the Amirul Hajj for the 2026 pilgrimage, while Sheikh Zakariyah Ishaq Olorungbebe will serve as Chairman of the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board.
The announcement was confirmed on Thursday through a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, as part of preparations for the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage to the Holy Land in Saudi Arabia.
The appointments were made to strengthen the organisation and administration of Ogun State pilgrims travelling for the annual Islamic pilgrimage.
According to the government, the decision forms part of strategic measures designed to ensure that Muslim faithful from Ogun State experience a smooth, coordinated, and successful Hajj exercise.
Apelogun, who holds the titles Asiwaju Adinni of Ogun State and Baba Adinni of Remoland, will lead the Ogun State delegation during the pilgrimage.
As Amirul Hajj, he will provide leadership and spiritual guidance to the pilgrims while coordinating with authorities and officials responsible for managing the pilgrimage operations.
Similarly, Sheikh Zakariyah Olorungbebe will oversee the activities of the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, which handles administrative planning, travel arrangements, accommodation, and welfare services for intending pilgrims.
His role includes ensuring that all logistics related to the Hajj operation are properly managed before and during the pilgrimage.
Governor Abiodun urged both appointees to carry out their responsibilities with dedication, integrity, and strong commitment.
He stressed that effective coordination, leadership, and collaboration among officials involved in the Hajj exercise will be essential in guaranteeing the safety, comfort, and spiritual fulfilment of pilgrims.
The state government also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board through institutional backing and necessary resources to ensure a hitch-free pilgrimage for all Ogun State pilgrims.
Officials said the early appointments will allow adequate planning and coordination before the 2026 Hajj season, ensuring that all operational processes—from documentation to welfare services—are efficiently handled for the benefit of Muslim faithful participating in the sacred journey.
