National News – Nollywood actor Kunle Remi has expressed frustration over Nigeria’s rising fuel prices and economic hardship, saying the situation has left him mentally stressed.
The actor shared his concerns in a video posted on his Instagram page on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, where he described the increasing cost of petrol and unstable electricity supply as major challenges affecting individuals and businesses across the country.
Remi, speaking about the national situation, criticised the common claim by some Nigerians that they avoid political discussions.
According to him, staying silent about national issues is no longer reasonable, as citizens must speak up about governance and economic conditions affecting their daily lives.
The actor explained that the soaring cost of petrol has significantly increased his household expenses.
He disclosed that he recently spent over ₦1.3 million to purchase fuel because of persistent electricity outages, forcing him to run generators continuously at his residence on Lagos Island.
He also highlighted how the economic situation is affecting workers and businesses.
Remi said some members of his staff now struggle to commute to work because transport fares have risen sharply, making their salaries insufficient to cover daily expenses.
The actor further questioned why Nigeria, despite being an oil-producing country, continues to struggle with high fuel costs.
He wondered why global tensions, including the ongoing conflict involving Iran, quickly impact fuel prices in Nigeria.
According to Remi, the country’s dependence on limited refining capacity remains a major problem.
He noted that Nigeria still relies heavily on a single functioning refinery while several others remain underutilised or non-operational.
His remarks come amid growing public concern about the rising cost of petrol, diesel, transportation, and electricity across the country.
Other public figures, including Nollywood actor Wale Akorede, have also criticised the fuel situation and called for reforms in Nigeria’s energy sector.
Observers say the increasing fuel costs continue to affect households, businesses, and transportation nationwide, intensifying calls for solutions to Nigeria’s energy and economic challenges.
