National News – The Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, has arrested 35 suspected criminals involved in kidnapping, theft, human trafficking, and attempted rape across Ondo State.

The suspects were apprehended in different locations within the state’s 18 local government areas over the past week, with the parade held at the Amotekun headquarters in Akure, the state capital.

Amotekun Corps’ commander, Akogun Adetunji, confirmed that 19 suspects were arrested for breaking law and order, three for human trafficking, 11 for kidnapping, and two for rape.

He revealed that the human trafficking suspects defrauded a victim of about 1.4 million cedis under the pretext of helping secure a Canadian visa.

The victim, held hostage for two weeks, was rescued after reporting to Amotekun, with her money and passports recovered.

Adetunji listed some of the suspects, including Musa Momodu, Abdullahi David Shamisu, Ismail Benard Isiaka Abdullahi, Shehu Suleiman Abdullahi, Eyinloju Taiwo, Eyinloju Kejinde, Modest Mika, Emmanuel Ayodeji, Tope Dada, and Saliu Musa.

He emphasized that criminal activities have dropped since the enforcement of a night-time ban on commercial motorcycles (Okada), reducing house break-ins and related crimes.

Regarding motorcycle theft, six suspects were arrested for attacking riders, stealing motorcycles, dismantling them, and selling parts.

A stolen Lexus Jeep in Owo was also recovered within hours after Amotekun cordoned off roads leading into and out of the town.

Amotekun revealed that over 120 motorcycles have been impounded for violating the night operation ban and that about 14,000 Okada riders are now registered with the agency.

Adetunji assured that enforcement efforts will continue, and defaulters will face legal sanctions.
