National News – Organisers of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards have confirmed that nominees for the 2026 edition of the prestigious African film and television awards will be officially unveiled on Sunday, March 29, 2026.

The nomination reveal will be broadcast live at 7 p.m. WAT on Africa Magic channels, with Nollywood actor Chimezie Imo hosting the special announcement programme.

The organisers announced the upcoming nominee reveal through the award’s official social media platforms, explaining that the programme will spotlight the best-performing films, actors, directors, and television productions across Africa.

The awards ceremony itself will take place in May 2026 in Lagos, bringing together leading figures in the African entertainment industry.

According to the organisers, the 12th edition of the awards aims to recognise excellence and creativity in African film and television while strengthening cultural representation across the continent.

The awards are organised by MultiChoice in partnership with Canal+ to celebrate outstanding contributions to African storytelling.

Entries for the 2026 awards opened on January 11 and closed on February 15, 2026. Eligible submissions included films and television productions publicly screened or broadcast between January 1 and December 31, 2025.

Feature-length films were required to have been shown in cinemas, broadcast on linear television, or released on recognised streaming platforms to qualify for consideration.

The organisers also confirmed that the upcoming edition will feature 32 award categories.

These include 18 categories determined by a professional jury, 11 categories decided by audience voting, and special honours such as Lifetime Achievement and Trailblazer awards.

A key highlight of the 2026 edition is the introduction of two new award categories: Best Indigenous Language – North Africa and Best Indigenous Language – Central Africa.

According to the organisers, the additions reflect a broader effort to promote Pan-African representation and celebrate the continent’s diverse languages and cultures.

The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards have grown to become one of Africa’s most influential entertainment platforms, recognising outstanding filmmakers, actors, and producers while helping to elevate African cinema to a global audience.

The 2026 nominee announcement is expected to generate significant excitement among fans and industry stakeholders ahead of the main awards ceremony in Lagos.
