National News – The All Progressives Congress has announced the winners of its House of Representatives primaries in Rivers State, with Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, emerging as one of the leading candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The primaries were held across the state’s 13 federal constituencies on May 16, 2026, at the APC secretariat in Port Harcourt.
The APC primary election committee, led by Wahab Owokoniran, declared the results after collation officers submitted reports from various constituencies.
According to the committee, the exercise was conducted peacefully despite political tensions in Rivers State.
Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission monitored the process during the announcement.
Amaewhule, who contested as the sole aspirant for Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency 1, secured 17,968 votes to emerge as the APC candidate.
In Port Harcourt Federal Constituency 1, Igwe Precious also emerged unopposed with 5,885 votes.
Other winners included Dumnamene Dekor, who defeated Israel Ngbuelo in Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency with 17,073 votes against 1,220.

Owokoniran praised party members for maintaining peace throughout the exercise and expressed confidence that the APC would perform strongly in the 2027 elections.
APC spokesperson Chibike Ikenga urged winners to remain humble and work toward uniting the party before the general election.
Political observers noted that many successful aspirants are loyalists of Nyesom Wike and supporters of the coalition backing President Bola Tinubu for a second term.
