National News – The North Central zone of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has unanimously adopted Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its sole presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The decision was reached on Wednesday during the APC North Central Zonal Congress held at the Aliyu Akwe Doma Banquet Hall, Government House, Lafia, in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
Party leaders, governors, lawmakers, ministers, and grassroots delegates from the region endorsed the move, citing Tinubu’s economic reforms and governance record as the reason for their support.
The adoption motion was formally moved by former Senate President and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and seconded by Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule.
Sule, who also chairs the North Central Governors’ Forum, said the President’s economic reforms had improved state finances, allowing some governors to carry out projects without resorting to bank loans.
According to him, this progress motivated the governors to throw their weight behind Tinubu’s re-election bid.
During the congress, delegates also produced new APC zonal executives through a consensus process affirmed by voice vote.
The method, party officials explained, followed the same approach used at ward, local government and state levels of the party’s congress exercise.
Speaking at the event, Akume stressed the strategic importance of the North Central to the party’s national strength, noting that the APC currently governs all states in the zone — Benue, Kogi, Niger, Nasarawa and Plateau — as well as having influence in the Federal Capital Territory.
He urged members not to relax ahead of the 2027 polls, warning that victory would only be guaranteed through hard work and grassroots mobilisation.
Representing the APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, the Deputy National Secretary, Abdulkarim Kana, commended the region for its loyalty and unity.
He described the North Central as a “bedrock of stability” for the administration and called on party officials to expand membership and strengthen the APC ahead of future elections.
Party leaders also invited stakeholders to attend the APC National Convention scheduled for March 27–28, 2026, at Eagle Square in Abuja.
