National News – The Nigerian Army has arrested 18 suspected logistics couriers linked to the terrorist group Boko Haram in Borno State, North-East Nigeria.

The suspects were intercepted while allegedly transporting supplies to insurgent fighters moving through the Gubio–Gudumbali axis.

Military authorities said the arrests were part of ongoing counter-terrorism operations aimed at disrupting the supply chain that sustains insurgent activities in the region.

According to the Army, the suspects were apprehended on Wednesday during a security operation targeting illegal movements of goods and support networks connected to terrorist groups.

The military disclosed that the individuals were allegedly moving essential supplies believed to be meant for Boko Haram fighters operating in remote parts of northern Borno.

Preliminary investigations by security operatives revealed that most of the arrested suspects were reportedly drawn into the logistics trade due to economic hardship.

The Army explained that terrorist groups often exploit vulnerable residents and struggling traders by offering financial incentives to transport food, fuel, and other supplies into insurgent-controlled territories.

In a statement released via the Army’s official social media channels, the military warned that providing assistance to terrorists—whether through logistics, intelligence, or other forms of support—remains a serious criminal offence under Nigerian law.

Authorities stressed that such actions pose grave threats to national security and endanger the lives of innocent citizens.

The Army also called on residents across communities in the North-East to cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious movements and activities.

Military officials said the success of ongoing counter-terrorism operations largely depends on public vigilance and community collaboration.

Security authorities further highlighted the importance of government-backed economic empowerment programmes and skills development initiatives as tools to discourage residents from engaging in illegal support for insurgent groups.

According to the Army, improved access to jobs and basic services could help reduce the influence of extremist networks that prey on economic vulnerability.

The military reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace and stability across the North-East, stressing that defeating terrorism requires a unified approach involving security operations, development programmes, and strong partnerships with local communities.
