National News – The Nigerian Army on Saturday held a ceremonial pull-out parade in honour of retiring senior officer Erema Akerejola at the Army Supply and Transport Barracks in Benin City, Edo State.
The event marked the formal retirement of the Major General after decades of military service and leadership in various operational and administrative roles.
The colourful military ceremony brought together family members, friends, colleagues, and senior officers who gathered to celebrate Akerejola’s long career in the armed forces.
The farewell parade, a long-standing military tradition, symbolised his official exit from active service in the Nigerian Army.
Troops dressed in full ceremonial uniform marched in coordinated formations as a bugler delivered the traditional final call, signifying the end of the general’s service in the military.
The disciplined parade demonstrated the Army’s respect and appreciation for Akerejola’s years of dedication to national security.
During his time in service, Akerejola held several strategic positions, particularly in logistics and field operations.
Military officials noted that he contributed to strengthening the Army’s supply and transport systems, while also supporting counter-insurgency operations in Nigeria’s North-East region.
Senior officers at the event praised the retiring general’s professionalism and commitment, describing him as a disciplined leader whose service inspired both junior and senior personnel.
According to colleagues, his leadership style and dedication helped improve operational efficiency within the Army’s logistics structure.
The ceremony concluded with the symbolic slow drive through the ranks — a traditional farewell moment in military culture.
Seated in an open-top staff vehicle, the retired general acknowledged salutes and cheers from soldiers who lined the parade ground.
For many officers and guests present, the parade represented more than a formal retirement event.
It served as recognition of a distinguished military career that spanned several years and multiple leadership administrations within the Nigerian Army.
Military traditions such as pull-out parades remain a significant part of the Army’s culture, offering an opportunity to honour officers who have dedicated their lives to national service and the defence of Nigeria.
