National News – The Shaibu Waidi, Chief of Army Staff, and Olatunji Disu have called for stronger cooperation among Nigeria’s security agencies to tackle growing security threats across the country.

The call was made on Wednesday during a familiarisation visit by the Inspector-General of Police to the Army Headquarters in Abuja, where both leaders discussed strategies to strengthen operational synergy against banditry, kidnapping and other internal security challenges.

The meeting focused on improving intelligence sharing, joint training and coordinated operations between the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force.

According to an official statement released by Army spokesperson Appolonia Anele, the police chief stressed that sustained inter-agency cooperation remains vital for addressing Nigeria’s evolving security threats and achieving national security objectives.

Disu commended the long-standing partnership between the Army and the Police, noting that the collaboration has significantly strengthened the country’s security architecture.

He particularly praised the Army for supporting the training of Police Mobile Force personnel, explaining that the initiative has enhanced the operational capacity of police units deployed in various conflict zones.

The Inspector-General further assured the Army of continued intelligence exchange and joint operational planning aimed at improving the effectiveness of ongoing and future security operations across the country.

Responding during the meeting, the Chief of Army Staff congratulated the police chief on his appointment and reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to deepening collaboration with other security agencies in line with his command philosophy of jointness.

Waidi also highlighted their previous professional cooperation during the United Nations Mission in Darfur in Sudan, describing the experience as a foundation for effective teamwork in complex security environments.

He also acknowledged the support provided by the police to soldiers deployed in Kogi State, Kwara State and Niger State, where joint operations against bandits and kidnappers are currently ongoing.

The Army chief emphasised that lasting peace in Nigeria can only be achieved through a unified and well-coordinated security framework involving all relevant agencies.
