National News – The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested an 18-year-old suspect, Saihanu Ahmad, over an alleged armed robbery attack at a student lodge near the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi.
The arrest followed a report by victims who said two armed suspects invaded their off-campus residence on April 5, 2026, stealing several mobile phones and a laptop during the incident in Bauchi State.
Police authorities disclosed that four students reported the robbery to the ‘E’ Division Yalwa shortly after the incident.
According to investigators, the suspects stormed the lodge armed with weapons, threatened the occupants, and carted away valuable gadgets before fleeing the scene.
Items reported stolen during the robbery include an iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 13 Pro, Redmi A3 smartphone, Tecno Spark 40, Samsung A23, Samsung A23 Plus, Tecno Pop 10, an iPhone 15 Pro Max, and a Samsung laptop.
Police detectives later recovered one of the stolen phones — a Redmi A3 — from the arrested suspect during preliminary investigations.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Bauchi State, SP Nafi’u Habib, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday.
He explained that officers launched an investigation immediately after receiving the complaint from the victims, leading to the arrest of Ahmad and the recovery of part of the stolen property.
Habib said the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case and intensify efforts to track down the second suspect who is currently at large.
He added that the police are working to recover the remaining stolen devices and ensure the suspects involved in the robbery face prosecution.
“The suspect is currently in police custody while investigations continue.
He will be charged in court upon completion of the investigation,” the statement said.
The police command also urged residents and students living off campus to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could assist in preventing crime and arresting criminals in the state.
Authorities assured the public that patrols and surveillance would be strengthened around student communities to improve safety and protect lives and property.
