National News – Popular gaming YouTuber Elz the Witch has been announced as the host of the upcoming BAFTA Games Awards, scheduled to take place on 17 April in London.
The content creator, known for her gaming videos and broadcasting work, will lead the ceremony recognising the best video games released in the past year.
Organisers say the event is one of the gaming industry’s most prestigious annual celebrations, bringing together developers, creators and fans from around the world.
Elz, who keeps her full name private, first gained popularity on YouTube through gaming-related content and later transitioned into professional hosting and radio presenting.
She has also become a familiar face to fans of the Sidemen Charity Match, where she has served as a presenter multiple times.
Beyond YouTube, she regularly appears on youth-oriented radio platforms, expanding her reach in the entertainment and gaming communities.
Reacting to the announcement, Elz said she felt “tremendously proud” to take on the role, describing it as both exciting and nerve-wracking.
According to her, hosting such a major gaming ceremony comes with pressure, but also an opportunity to promote inclusivity within the gaming world.
The presenter said one of her biggest motivations is encouraging more women to enter the gaming space.
She explained that while progress has been made in recent years, female gamers and creators still face online abuse and stereotypes.
Elz believes gaming companies and social media platforms have a responsibility to create safer environments for women participating in online gaming communities.
Meanwhile, this year’s awards feature strong competition. Leading nominations is the video game Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, followed by other highly anticipated titles including Dispatch, Blue Prince, Ghost of Yōtei, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Arc Raiders.
As host, Elz says she is eager to meet developers behind some of the games that inspired her, noting that gaming has played a meaningful role in her life and career.
