National News – Former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Victor Ochei, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a significant shift in Delta State politics.

He confirmed the development in a resignation letter dated May 8, 2026, addressed to the APC Ward 4 chairman in Onicha-Olona, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State.

Ochei said his decision followed careful reflection and consultations, stressing that his exit was driven by the need for broader political growth and continued commitment to public service rather than bitterness or resentment.

He noted that he joined the APC in 2016 and contributed to party growth through grassroots mobilisation and political engagement across Delta communities.

He urged supporters to remain peaceful and committed to democratic ideals while he did not disclose his next political destination.

The resignation has sparked renewed discussions within Delta State political circles about party realignment, internal democracy, and emerging 2027 electoral strategies in the region.

The announcement was made public by his media aide, Austin Edemodu, who stated that the decision followed extensive consultations and a formal resignation process submitted to the party ward leadership.

Victor Ochei’s exit from the APC underscores shifting alliances in Nigerian politics, especially in Delta State, as stakeholders reassess their positions ahead of future elections.

A former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Ochei has been a notable figure in Delta politics, known for legislative leadership, grassroots influence, and party-building efforts since joining the APC nearly a decade ago.

Political observers say the development may influence upcoming alignments within the APC and opposition blocs, as key stakeholders reposition ahead of the next election cycle in Delta State and beyond.

The move highlights ongoing political recalibration in Nigeria’s South-South region, with analysts closely watching subsequent defections and strategic party movements in Delta State politics.

His resignation letter was dated May 8, 2026, but made public on May 28, 2026.

Further updates on Delta APC developments are expected.
