National News – The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Friday, April 3, 2026, and Monday, April 6, 2026, as public holidays to mark the 2026 Easter celebration.

The announcement was made on Wednesday by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who congratulated Christians across Nigeria and in the diaspora while urging citizens to embrace the values associated with the season.

According to the minister, the public holidays were approved by the Federal Government to enable Christians nationwide to commemorate Good Friday and Easter Monday, two significant events in the Christian calendar that mark the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The declaration applies to workers in both the public and private sectors across the country.

Tunji-Ojo said the Easter celebration serves as a moment for Nigerians to reflect on virtues such as selflessness, forgiveness, patience, and love, which he said were demonstrated through the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.

He encouraged citizens to practice these values in their daily interactions to foster unity and national development.

The minister also called on Nigerians to use the holiday period as an opportunity to strengthen peaceful coexistence and tolerance among people of different religious and cultural backgrounds.

According to him, unity and shared national values remain essential for Nigeria’s growth and stability.

He stressed that Easter is not only a religious celebration but also a period that reminds citizens of the importance of compassion, community spirit, and national solidarity.

Tunji-Ojo urged Nigerians to continue supporting government efforts aimed at achieving sustainable development, economic growth, and improved living conditions for all.

The Interior Minister further reiterated the government’s commitment to policies and programmes designed to promote national rebirth and shared prosperity.

He noted that the administration remains focused on decisions that will positively impact citizens and strengthen Nigeria’s progress.

Tunji-Ojo concluded by wishing Christians across the country a peaceful, joyful, and spiritually fulfilling Easter celebration, encouraging everyone to celebrate responsibly and uphold the spirit of love and unity during the holiday period.
