National News – A late-night fire outbreak has destroyed parts of a plastic manufacturing company along Umuoji Road in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, leaving property worth millions of naira damaged.

The incident happened on Saturday evening, May 16, 2026, while firefighters battled through the night to contain the inferno and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings.

The fire affected raw materials used for plastic production, finished plastic products, production machines, chemical drums, and sections of the factory structure.

Fortunately, no lives were lost in the industrial fire incident.

Eyewitnesses in the area said thick smoke covered the environment shortly after the fire started from one section of the complex.

Residents and workers reportedly watched helplessly as the flames intensified before emergency responders arrived at the scene.

The Anambra State Fire Service confirmed the factory fire in Nkpor and disclosed that firefighters were immediately mobilised after receiving a distress call around 5:20 pm on Saturday.

According to the agency, the team fought the blaze for several hours before finally bringing it under control in the early hours of Sunday.

Head of Media and Publicity for the fire service, Chukwudi Chiketa, explained that preliminary investigations revealed the fire was triggered by welding activities carried out within the company premises earlier in the day.

He added that the quick intervention of firefighters helped save valuable equipment and nearby structures from total destruction.

Authorities also advised companies and technicians handling welding operations and other heat-related industrial activities to strictly follow safety measures to avoid future fire disasters.

The firefighters eventually withdrew from the scene around 5:20 am on Sunday after successfully containing the blaze.

The incident has again raised concerns over industrial safety compliance and fire prevention measures in manufacturing facilities across Anambra State.
