National News – Former presidential candidate Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of Accord, revealing that his political movement has already mobilised over one million supporters nationwide.

He made the announcement through a statement released by his media office on Tuesday as preparations for the next general elections gather momentum across Nigeria.

Olawepo-Hashim said his political structure had begun aggressive grassroots mobilisation in different states to strengthen the Accord Party ahead of the 2027 polls.

According to him, the movement aims to provide Nigerians with a credible political alternative focused on national unity, economic recovery, good governance and inclusive development.

Speaking on reports that the Accord Party may not present a presidential candidate in 2027, Olawepo-Hashim dismissed the claim, insisting that no individual has the authority to decide Nigeria’s next president.

He stressed that political power belongs to the people and ultimately rests in the hands of God and Nigerian voters.

The former presidential hopeful also accused some political figures of making premature endorsements out of fear and political survival instincts in Nigeria’s highly competitive political environment.

He maintained that attempts to predetermine the outcome of the 2027 presidential election would fail because voters would decide the nation’s future through democratic participation.

Olawepo-Hashim, who contested the 2019 presidential election under the Peoples Trust platform, has remained active in national political discussions.

He has consistently advocated restructuring, economic reforms and stronger national unity while participating in coalition talks among opposition leaders ahead of the next election cycle.

Political activities ahead of the 2027 elections have intensified in recent months, with consultations, alliances and opposition realignments increasing amid concerns over insecurity, governance challenges and Nigeria’s economic situation.
