National News – The English Football Association (FA) has confirmed that entering a football stadium without a valid ticket is now a criminal offence in England and Wales.
Offenders could face fines up to £1,000 and football banning orders preventing match attendance for up to five years.
The new law targets illegal entry methods including tailgating, forged tickets, fake accreditation, and impersonating stadium staff.
The legislation comes after UEFA Euro 2020 Final chaos, where thousands of ticketless fans forced entry, creating serious safety risks.
A review led by Louise Casey revealed that nearly 2,000 people breached disabled access gates and emergency exits.
Policing minister Sarah Jones emphasized that the law provides authorities with stronger tools to prevent similar incidents, ensuring fans can enjoy matches safely.
Previously, offenders were usually ejected from stadiums or charged under fraud laws, which were often difficult to prove.
The new law simplifies enforcement and acts as a strong deterrent, especially at high-profile events such as the Carabao Cup Final at Wembley Stadium.
The FA says these changes are part of wider efforts to improve stadium safety ahead of Euro 2028, which will be co-hosted by the UK and Ireland.
Stadium security measures will now include stricter monitoring of entry points, staff identification checks, and legal consequences for those attempting to bypass ticketing systems.
