National News – The Independent National Electoral Commission (Independent National Electoral Commission) has officially received the presidential nomination details of the Social Democratic Party (Social Democratic Party) candidate, Adewole Adebayo, ahead of the 2027 general election in Nigeria.
The submission, made in Abuja, followed the party’s national convention held in Bauchi on May 9, 2026, where Adebayo emerged unopposed as the party’s flag bearer.
The letter forwarded to INEC confirmed Adebayo as the SDP presidential candidate after a peaceful direct primary conducted at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium.
The party stated that the exercise was transparent and concluded with overwhelming delegate support. INEC is expected to process the nomination and issue the required EC9 series forms for verification and compliance with electoral laws.
According to SDP documents, the party requested INEC’s official nomination forms, including EC9, EC9A, EC9B, EC9C, EC9D, and EC9E, to complete the candidacy process.
Adebayo, who also served as the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, was returned unopposed after securing majority delegate backing and internal party consensus.
Political analysts note that the move signals early mobilisation by the SDP as parties position themselves for heightened competition in the 2027 presidential election.
The formal transmission of candidate details to INEC underscores compliance with electoral guidelines and strengthens transparency in the nomination process.
It also highlights increasing internal consolidation within opposition parties seeking to challenge dominant political blocs across Nigeria’s democratic landscape.
