National News – Former WBA Intercontinental light heavyweight champion Peter Oboh has weighed in on a potential heavyweight clash between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder.
Following Wilder’s recent victory over Derek Chisora, he called out Joshua for a fight that could captivate boxing fans worldwide.
Oboh predicts that the match would be intense but brief, likely ending before the seventh round, and believes Joshua has a slight edge if the fight concludes early.
Oboh, a former British and Commonwealth champion, explained that while Joshua, Wilder, and Tyson Fury were once considered the top heavyweights globally, they have passed their peak.
“At one time, they were the three best heavyweights in the world, but rankings now place them outside the top five across major sanctioning bodies,” Oboh said.
He highlighted current top heavyweights Oleksandr Usyk and Moses Itauma as benchmarks.
Despite this, he believes a Joshua-Wilder fight remains highly entertaining due to their explosive fighting styles.
“If both fighters bring their full power, it’s a 50-50 bout, and it won’t go beyond round seven,” he added.
Oboh also reflected on the potential historical significance of such a fight.
“A few years ago, this would have been a super fight, just like a possible Fury-Joshua matchup.
While the bout now may not match that level, it would still attract global attention,” he said.
He emphasized the risk involved in such explosive encounters, joking that continuous clashes could “cause one or both fighters to give way,” while hoping Joshua comes out on top.
The fight, if agreed upon, would not only draw international viewership but also impact heavyweight rankings and future bouts.
Boxing enthusiasts and analysts alike are closely watching Joshua’s response to Wilder’s challenge, anticipating one of the most discussed heavyweight contests of the year.
