National News – The Governor of Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has dismissed the Commissioner for Investment, Commerce and Industry, Shehu Sagagi, with immediate effect as part of efforts to restructure the state government.
The decision was announced on Thursday in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature.
According to the statement, Sagagi has been directed to hand over the affairs of the ministry to the Director of Commerce pending further directives from the state government.
The announcement clarified who was affected, what action was taken, when it happened, and where the change occurred.
Governor Yusuf relieved Sagagi of his duties on Thursday in Kano, explaining that the move forms part of ongoing administrative adjustments aimed at improving efficiency in governance.
The government said the reshuffle is intended to reposition the state’s economic and commercial institutions for better performance.
The governor expressed appreciation for the former commissioner’s service during his tenure in office.
He acknowledged Sagagi’s contributions to political engagement, religious outreach and initiatives supporting small and medium-sized enterprises across the state.
According to the statement, these efforts played a role in strengthening economic participation and social engagement in Kano.
However, the government stressed that the restructuring was necessary to promote improved service delivery and ensure that ministries operate more effectively.
The directive also instructed Sagagi to immediately transfer official responsibilities and documentation to the Director of Commerce until a new appointment is announced.
The development comes shortly after the governor removed the state Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, as part of a broader reform agenda targeting the state’s civil service structure.
Following Musa’s removal, the Permanent Secretary for Administration and General Services in the Cabinet Office, Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, was appointed to serve in an acting capacity pending a substantive appointment.
Observers say the changes are also unfolding amid political realignments in Kano after Governor Yusuf moved from the New Nigeria Peoples Party to the All Progressives Congress.
The shift has reportedly triggered adjustments within political and administrative structures, with several government officials repositioning themselves following the governor’s new party alignment.
State officials say the restructuring is expected to strengthen governance systems and support sustainable development in Kano.
