Kano Schools Close for Eid-el-Kabir Holiday

National News – The Kano State Government has announced the closure of all public and private primary and secondary schools across the state for the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The directive was issued by the Kano State Ministry of Education on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, to allow students, teachers, and families to observe the Sallah holiday peacefully.

According to the statement signed by the Director of Public Enlightenment at the ministry, Misbahu Yakasai, boarding school students are expected to begin their holiday from Saturday, May 23, 2026, and return on Sunday, May 31, 2026.

Day school students will proceed on break from Friday, May 22, 2026, and resume academic activities on Monday, June 1, 2026.

The announcement affects all public and private primary and secondary schools operating within Kano State.

The government explained that the temporary closure is part of arrangements for the Eid-el-Kabir festivities, one of the major Islamic celebrations observed nationwide.

Parents and guardians were advised to pick up their children from boarding schools on the approved closing date and ensure they return promptly on the official resumption day.

Authorities stressed the importance of compliance with the school calendar to avoid disruption to academic activities after the holiday.

The Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Makoda, extended Eid-el-Kabir greetings to students, teachers, parents, and members of the education community.

He wished residents a peaceful and joyful celebration while encouraging families to use the period responsibly.

The Kano school holiday announcement has generated reactions among parents and students preparing for the Sallah season.

Many residents are expected to travel within and outside the state as part of the Eid-el-Kabir festivities.
