National News – Several textile shops were destroyed after a midnight fire outbreak razed a three-storey commercial building on Oyabiyi Street, opposite the Nigeria Labour Congress office in the Tejuosho area of Yaba, Lagos State.

The fire incident occurred around 3:15 a.m. on Saturday, leaving traders counting heavy losses as flames consumed stores filled with textile materials.

Officials of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the incident, explaining that emergency teams responded quickly after receiving distress calls about the blaze.

According to the agency, the fire engulfed a building housing multiple textile shops where large quantities of fabrics and related materials were stored.

The Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, said firefighters from the Somolu, Ilupeju, and Sari Iganmu fire stations were immediately deployed to the scene.

She explained that their rapid intervention helped contain the fire before it spread to nearby buildings in the densely populated commercial area.

Emergency responders battled the flames for several hours, eventually bringing the situation under control.

Authorities confirmed that no casualties were recorded, although significant damage was reported as textile goods and shop structures were destroyed by the intense fire.

The fire service also revealed that the Tejuosho incident was one of two overnight fire outbreaks recorded across Lagos State.

Another fire reportedly occurred at Tower Aluminium Village in Dopemu, Agege, where offices and storage facilities were affected.

Investigators have begun examining both incidents to determine the exact cause of the fires, while authorities continue assessing the extent of the losses suffered by business owners.

Adeseye urged traders and residents, particularly those operating in markets and commercial buildings, to adopt strict fire safety precautions.

She stressed the importance of proper storage of flammable materials, functional fire extinguishers, and early emergency reporting to prevent similar incidents.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service reiterated its commitment to rapid emergency response across the state, noting that timely intervention and coordinated firefighting efforts helped prevent the blaze from escalating into a larger disaster in the busy Lagos commercial district.
