National News – The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has cautioned residents to remain vigilant against unsafe trade practices and exploitation as Easter approaches.
The agency highlighted that festive periods typically see a surge in commercial activities, increasing the risk of inflated prices, substandard goods, expired products, and misleading promotions.
In a statement shared on its official X page, LASCOPA’s General Manager, Afolabi Solebo, urged consumers to carefully check product authenticity and expiry dates, particularly for food, beverages, and pharmaceuticals.
He also advised residents to avoid unregistered or suspicious vendors and always request proper receipts for purchases.
Solebo further warned traders against exploiting consumers, emphasizing that the agency would intensify market monitoring and enforcement during the Easter holiday.
“We will conduct regular inspections across shopping centres, markets, and recreational venues to ensure compliance with consumer protection regulations,” he said.
Consumers were encouraged to report violations promptly through LASCOPA’s official communication channels.
The agency also stressed caution in online transactions, recommending that payments be made only to vendors with a physical presence in Lagos.
“Consumer rights are fundamental, but residents also have responsibilities — to stay informed, vigilant, and speak up when necessary,” Solebo added.
He concluded by wishing Lagosians a safe and enjoyable Easter celebration, reiterating LASCOPA’s commitment to protecting citizens from unscrupulous trade practices.
LASCOPA’s Easter advisory underscores the importance of awareness in safeguarding both personal finances and public health.
Residents are advised to remain proactive and report any cases of exploitation, fake deals, or expired goods to protect themselves and their families.
