National News – The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) has announced June 27, 2026, as the official date for this year’s Olympic Day celebrations.

The nationwide event will promote physical activity and social inclusion under the global guidance of Olympic Solidarity.

According to the committee, the initiative aims to encourage Nigerians of all ages to adopt the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship, and Respect while highlighting the importance of daily exercise for physical and mental well-being.

The NOC explained that activities such as walking, jogging, and group exercises can improve overall health by burning calories, strengthening muscles, and reducing stress.

Abdul Ibrahim, Chairman of the Sport-For-All Commission, emphasized the 2026 campaign’s focus on inclusivity, noting that exercising together enhances motivation and fosters social connection.

Participants are encouraged to invite friends and family to join in the nationwide celebration.

The committee confirmed that invitation letters have been sent to all state sports councils to ensure broad participation across Nigeria.

“We are targeting a high-impact event that reaches every corner of the country,” the statement read, following record-breaking participation in 2025.

Habu Gumel, President of the NOC, highlighted the broader social objective of bridging generational gaps through shared physical activity.

He stressed that connecting younger and older generations via sports can foster meaningful relationships and community cohesion.

Preparations are already underway at the state level to guarantee a smooth and engaging celebration.

The NOC’s Olympic Day campaign is designed not only to boost fitness but also to cultivate a sense of unity and shared achievement across diverse communities.

By combining regular exercise with inclusive activities, the initiative reinforces the Olympic ideals while promoting a healthier, socially connected population.
