National News – The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has rescued a 15-year-old girl from an alleged human trafficking attempt to Libya.
The incident occurred in Abuja, where officials intercepted a 46-year-old suspect accused of detaining the minor for two weeks.
Authorities acted following a missing person report filed by the victim’s mother, leading to the swift rescue operation.
According to NSCDC spokesperson Monica Ojobi, preliminary investigations revealed that the teenage victim was allegedly subjected to sexual abuse while in captivity.
Further interrogation exposed plans by the suspect to traffic the girl to Libya for child labour exploitation.
The rescue underscores growing concerns over cross-border trafficking networks targeting vulnerable minors.
The FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, confirmed that both the suspect and victim have been transferred to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for detailed investigation and prosecution.
He emphasized that intelligence operations are ongoing to dismantle trafficking syndicates linked to such crimes.
Odumosu stated that the NSCDC remains committed to protecting children and vulnerable groups from exploitation.
He urged members of the public to stay vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or activities involving minors to security agencies.
He also highlighted the importance of community cooperation in preventing human trafficking and safeguarding young people.
This case highlights the persistent threat of human trafficking in Nigeria and the urgent need for strengthened enforcement, awareness, and preventive measures.
Authorities say collaborative efforts between citizens and security agencies remain key to curbing these criminal networks and ensuring justice for victims.
