National News – Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chibudom Nwuche, has called for peace, unity, and responsible leadership in Rivers State following the completion of political party primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Nwuche made the appeal on Wednesday in a statement issued in Port Harcourt, urging political leaders to place the interests of Rivers people above personal ambition and party rivalry.
The former lawmaker said the lingering political crisis in Rivers State since 2023 has slowed development, weakened governance, and created unnecessary tension across the state.
The conflict between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, has continued to shape the state’s political landscape ahead of the next election cycle.
According to Nwuche, Rivers State needs visionary leadership focused on economic growth, political stability, and inclusive governance.
He stressed that all stakeholders, regardless of political affiliation, ethnicity, or religion, must work together to restore public confidence in democratic institutions and strengthen peace across the state.
Nwuche congratulated the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Kingsley Chinda, on emerging as the party’s flag bearer.
He described the victory as a significant step for progressive politics and grassroots participation in Rivers State politics.
He also urged Chinda to maintain a fair and inclusive leadership style by treating all residents equally, irrespective of tribe or political background.
The former deputy speaker further congratulated other victorious candidates from both the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State.
Among those he mentioned were Felix Obuah, APC senatorial candidate for Rivers West, Solomon Bob of Ahoada East/Abua-Odual Federal Constituency, and Victor Obuzor of Ahoada West/Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Federal Constituency.
Nwuche advised all candidates to see their emergence as a call to public service, sacrifice, and accountability.
He also urged Rivers voters to support credible leaders with proven competence and dedication to public service ahead of the 2027 elections.
