National News – The Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has called on Christians and Nigerians to embrace unity, hope and renewed faith as they celebrate Easter, marking the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The governor made the call on Saturday in his Easter message to residents of Edo State and Nigerians nationwide, urging citizens to reflect on the spiritual significance of the season and its lessons for national unity and peaceful coexistence.

In the message, Okpebholo described Easter as a sacred Christian celebration that symbolises sacrifice, love, redemption and the triumph of life over death.

He noted that the occasion commemorates the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, which Christians across the world celebrate annually during the Easter period.

The governor emphasised that the teachings and life of Jesus Christ provide a powerful example of humility, selflessness and unwavering faith.

According to him, Christians should use the Easter celebration as a time for deep reflection and commitment to living by these values.

Okpebholo urged residents of Edo State to strengthen unity and mutual respect across religious and ethnic lines, stressing that cooperation among citizens is necessary for peace and development.

He added that the challenges facing the nation require collective responsibility and a renewed commitment to national progress.

He also reassured residents that his administration remains committed to providing good governance, strengthening economic growth and improving the well-being of people across the state.

According to the governor, the Easter message should inspire citizens to remain hopeful and resilient despite economic and social challenges, adding that faith and unity remain essential tools for building a stronger society.

Okpebholo further called on Nigerians to use the Easter season to pray for peace, stability and development in Edo State and across the country.

He noted that such prayers are particularly important as political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He wished Christians in Edo State and Nigeria a joyful, peaceful and spiritually fulfilling Easter celebration.
