National News – The All Progressives Congress in Ondo State has condemned the destruction of campaign billboards promoting the re-election of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the act as unacceptable and capable of causing unrest within the party.
The condemnation followed reports that several billboards supporting Tinubu’s expected 2027 presidential re-election campaign were vandalised in parts of Akure, the state capital.
The damaged billboards were reportedly erected by a pro-Tinubu support group known as Akure Youth for BTO, which raised the alarm after discovering that some of the campaign materials had been destroyed along major streets in the city.
According to the group’s leader, Faloye Johnson, the vandalism appeared to be a deliberate action carried out by suspected political elements attempting to undermine the campaign efforts of Tinubu’s supporters.
Responding to the development, the Ondo State Secretary of the ruling party, Alex Kalejaiye, issued a statement condemning the incident and warning party members against engaging in acts that could tarnish the party’s reputation.
He stressed that the party would not tolerate indiscipline and promised that anyone found responsible for the vandalism would face legal consequences.
Kalejaiye also urged the youth group to submit credible evidence that could help security agencies identify the perpetrators.
According to him, every support group within the party is considered an extension of the ruling party’s structure and plays a vital role in mobilising voters ahead of the next general election.
He explained that the primary objective of the party in Ondo State is to unite members and supporters in order to secure massive votes for Tinubu in the 2027 election.
The secretary emphasised that acts of vandalism or internal conflict could weaken party cohesion and distract from its political goals.
Similarly, the party’s Director of Media and Publicity, Steve Otaloro, warned that the destruction of campaign materials could trigger tension among party loyalists if not properly addressed.
He called on individuals who claim to possess surveillance footage of the incident to release the evidence to security authorities without delay.
Otaloro added that swift identification and punishment of those responsible would serve as a deterrent and help maintain peace among party members as preparations for future elections continue.
