National News – Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has urged young Nigerian women to prioritise education, vocational training, and skills acquisition as vital tools for economic independence, leadership development, and national progress.
Saraki made the call on Saturday in Ilorin, Kwara State, during a Young Women Symposium organised by Saraki Young Women in Politics and coordinated by Omotosho Peace.
The event brought together young women aged between 18 and 25 years and focused on mentorship, empowerment, political inclusion, and leadership development.
Addressing participants, Saraki stressed that the choices young women make today regarding education and self-improvement will significantly influence their future opportunities and success.
According to the former Senate President, education and vocational skills remain among the most effective ways to overcome economic challenges and contribute meaningfully to society.
He explained that acquiring relevant knowledge and practical skills equips young women with the confidence and competence needed to compete in a rapidly changing world.
Saraki also encouraged participants to actively engage in the democratic process, applauding many of them for already registering as voters.
He noted that meaningful participation in governance and civic activities is essential for sustainable national development.
Reflecting on his tenure as governor of Kwara State, Saraki highlighted investments made in education, healthcare, sports, aviation, and youth empowerment initiatives.
He emphasised that no nation can achieve lasting development without investing in its youth population, particularly young women who play critical roles in community and national growth.
He commended the organisers of the symposium for providing practical support rather than merely advocating for women’s empowerment.
As part of the programme, hundreds of participants received vocational tools and empowerment materials tailored to their trades and interests following a needs assessment.
Saraki assured beneficiaries that the initiative would continue beyond the symposium through sustained empowerment and capacity-building programmes aimed at promoting self-reliance, entrepreneurship, and future leadership among young women.
