National News – Former senator representing Adamawa North Senatorial District, Elisha Abbo, has emerged as the Labour Party governorship candidate for Adamawa State ahead of the 2027 general election.

The party’s national leadership confirmed his emergence on Saturday after granting him official clearance following a screening exercise conducted at its national headquarters in Abuja.

Abbo secured the Labour Party ticket through a consensus arrangement, positioning him as one of the leading contenders in the race for the Adamawa Government House.

His emergence comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 elections across Nigeria.

The former lawmaker is expected to face the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Ahmed Galadima, and Aishatu Binani of the Nigeria Democratic Congress in what analysts predict could become one of the most closely watched governorship contests in the North-East.

Speaking after securing the party’s nomination, Abbo outlined his plans for Adamawa State.

He pledged to focus on economic revitalisation, infrastructure development, youth empowerment, quality education, improved healthcare services and enhanced security if elected governor.

The Labour Party candidate also stressed the importance of inclusive governance, promising policies that prioritise citizens’ welfare and create employment opportunities across the state.

According to him, his administration would work towards sustainable development and better living conditions for residents.

In a statement shared on his Facebook page on Saturday, Abbo expressed strong confidence in his electoral prospects.

He stated that he believes he will be sworn in as governor of Adamawa State on May 29, 2027.

His emergence has already generated fresh political interest in Adamawa, with stakeholders expected to begin strategic consultations ahead of the election.

Political observers say Abbo’s next major task will be grassroots mobilisation across the state’s 21 local government areas as he seeks to strengthen support and expand the Labour Party’s influence before the governorship poll.
