National News – Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling banditry and ensuring security in the state.

During a visit to the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, Governor Aliyu met with Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to discuss coordinated strategies to combat violent crimes.

The governor emphasized that safeguarding lives and property is a shared responsibility, involving both state and federal authorities.

Aliyu highlighted that his administration has prioritized security within its 9-Point Smart Innovative Agenda, noting that peace is crucial for development.

He revealed that over 200 patrol vehicles have been procured and distributed to security agencies since his assumption of office to enhance rapid response and operational efficiency.

While acknowledging the persistent threat of banditry, the governor commended recent successes of security forces and urged them to maintain the momentum.

He stressed the importance of intelligence gathering and inter-agency collaboration in achieving lasting results.

Governor Aliyu also called for stronger synergy among security agencies, warning that disjointed efforts could undermine progress in tackling organized crime.

He paid tribute to former Sokoto State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Musa, now an Assistant Inspector-General, praising his bravery, discipline, and contributions to the state’s security.

The governor tasked the newly posted Commissioner of Police, Hayatu Hassan, to build on this legacy.

Responding, IGP Egbetokun expressed appreciation for the Sokoto State Government’s unwavering support of police operations.

He assured that the Nigeria Police Force would continue working closely with the state administration to enhance safety and security.

Governor Aliyu was accompanied by Secretary to the State Government, Muhammad Bello Sifawa, and Chief of Staff, Aminu Haliru Dikko, during the visit.
