National News – President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Shu’aib Aliyu as the new Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF). Aliyu succeeds Ahmed Aminu, who resigned to pursue the 2027 governorship election in Adamawa State.

The President also renewed the tenure of Sule Abdulaziz as the Managing Director/CEO of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) for a second and final term, with both appointments effective immediately.

According to Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Aliyu is a seasoned academic and administrator with vast experience in research and institutional leadership.

The appointment is aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s petroleum sector and enhancing capacity development for the nation’s energy industry.

Onanuga emphasized that Aliyu is expected to reposition PTDF to drive innovation, human capital development, and strategic support for oil and gas in alignment with national priorities.

Regarding Abdulaziz, the Presidency highlighted his performance in improving Nigeria’s electricity transmission network.

Under his leadership, TCN achieved enhanced grid stability, expanded transmission capacity, and system modernization.

Abdulaziz also played a key role in promoting regional electricity integration through the West African Power Pool.

President Tinubu urged both officials to carry out their duties with diligence, professionalism, and integrity under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

These appointments demonstrate the government’s commitment to strengthening vital institutions, ensuring energy sector growth, and fostering regional cooperation in electricity transmission.

Experts suggest that the leadership continuity at TCN and fresh direction at PTDF could significantly boost Nigeria’s energy infrastructure and human resource development.
