National News – President Bola Tinubu on Saturday arrived in Ogun State to commission the Gateway International Airport in Iperu and unveil a new state-owned airline, Gateway Air.
The event, attended by Governor Dapo Abiodun and broadcast live on TVC, highlighted a major federal and state partnership in boosting transportation, commerce, and regional economic growth.
Tinubu’s visit also included inspection of multiple development projects across infrastructure, energy, agriculture, and security sectors.
According to a statement from PBAT Media Centre, the key initiatives being commissioned include newly acquired aircraft under Gateway Air, a cargo facility at the airport, and a 30MW Independent Power Plant at Onijanganjangan near Ewekoro.
Other projects include the Ilishan–Iperu Road, Sagamu–Iperu–Ode Remo–Sapade Road, and the Gateway International Airport Road.
Additional developments encompass the reconstructed Old Ibadan Road (to be renamed Bola Ahmed Tinubu Expressway), distribution of electric bikes, agricultural equipment, security vehicles, ambulances, and the Nigeria Customs Service Village and Forward Operating Base.
Governor Abiodun welcomed the President, emphasizing that these projects reflect shared federal and state commitment to comprehensive development.
He explained that the initiatives aim to enhance infrastructure, mobility, security, emergency response, agriculture, and energy, contributing to Ogun State’s economic transformation while supporting the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Gateway International Airport is expected to facilitate both passenger and cargo transport, boosting local commerce and tourism. Gateway Air, as a state-owned airline, will complement Nigeria’s aviation sector, offering new routes and services.
The inauguration underscores the government’s dedication to creating jobs, improving connectivity, and supporting sustainable regional development.
