National News – President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to actively collaborate with the police and other security agencies to curb rising insecurity.

Speaking during the 2026 National Police Day Grand Parade in Abuja, Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, emphasized that law enforcement alone cannot guarantee national safety.

Citizens, community leaders, and institutions must partner with security forces to enhance public safety.

The President highlighted that mistrust between citizens and the police fuels insecurity.

“When citizens and law enforcement stand on opposite sides of all suspicions, insecurity thrives,” Tinubu stated.

He urged Nigerians to view police officers as partners rather than distant enforcers, stressing the importance of respect, responsiveness, and engagement in maintaining peace.

Tinubu also directed the Nigeria Police Force leadership to continue reforms and uphold professionalism, discipline, and integrity.

“Let your conduct reflect the honour of the uniform you wear, let your actions inspire confidence, let your service bring pride to the nation,” he said.

He emphasized that strengthening policing institutions is key to national stability and that sustained reform would help Nigeria overcome security challenges.

Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, echoed the President, vowing strict accountability and zero tolerance for misconduct.

Disu assured officers that leadership would support those upholding professionalism, with improvements in welfare and operational capacity.

He stated, “Authority will never override the rule of law. There will be no sacred cows.”

National Police Day, observed annually on April 7, honors the dedication, service, and sacrifice of police officers, including those who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Both Tinubu and Disu reiterated that public safety requires collaboration between law enforcement and citizens, alongside sustained institutional reforms.
