National News – President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday postponed his scheduled trip to Iperu, Ogun State, to personally visit Jos, Plateau State, following deadly attacks in the Angwan Rukuba district that claimed at least 27 lives on Sunday.

The President’s visit comes after he met Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang at the Aso Rock Villa, where the governor briefed him on the ongoing security situation.

In response to the attacks, Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu ordered the deployment of Police Mobile Force units and tactical teams to Plateau State.

The President is expected to commiserate with victims’ families and coordinate security measures with state authorities before proceeding to Lagos for Good Friday observances.

On Saturday, April 4, he will inaugurate the Gateway International Cargo Airport in Ogun State and other federal projects, including the Nigerian Customs Service Federal Operations Unit building and operational vehicles.

Governor Mutfwang confirmed that security forces have yet to apprehend the attackers and stressed that understanding their motives depends on identifying both perpetrators and victims.

The governor condemned the attacks as acts of terrorism and criminality, emphasizing that religion does not justify such violence.

He also highlighted incidents of looting that disrupted peace in Jos after the temporary easing of the curfew from 8 am to 3 pm on Wednesday.

Following the unrest, the University of Jos ordered the evacuation of students from hostels to ensure their safety, while the NYSC suspended biometric clearance exercises across Plateau State.

Local authorities, including Mangu Local Government, imposed fresh curfews from 8 pm to 6 am to protect citizens and property.

Meanwhile, the Plateau Lawyers Bar Forum called for stricter enforcement against commercial motorcycle operators and full prosecution of attackers.

Security agencies continue operations across Jos North and surrounding areas to restore order.

Residents are urged to remain calm, cooperate with authorities, and report suspicious activities.
