National News – Nollywood star Toyin Abraham has made history as her debut directorial project, Over Sabi Auntie, grossed over ₦1 billion at the Nigerian box office.

Recognizing this remarkable achievement, the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) honored Abraham with a prestigious Box Office Champion Award.

NFVCB Executive Director Shuaib Husseini described her feat as “historic” and emphasized the importance of supporting a thriving film culture that strengthens Nigeria’s economy.

The President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Sanusi Yakubu, represented by Don Pedro, praised Abraham for her creativity and impact on the industry.

He noted that her film’s commercial success signals that Nigerian stories are increasingly capturing global attention.

Abraham expressed gratitude to her husband and the NFVCB for their support and revealed she chose to direct the film herself after growing frustrated with following others’ instructions.

She shared, “I told my manager I wanted to direct this movie alone.

With guidance from my industry godmother, Mrs. Bolanle Austin-Peters, I brought this dream to life.”

The award ceremony was attended by notable figures in the Nigerian entertainment industry, including Olori Temitope Ogunwusi, wife of the Ooni of Ife.

Abraham’s accomplishment has not only inspired her peers but also set a benchmark for first-time directors in Nollywood.
