National News – United States President Donald Trump has sparked fresh controversy after suggesting NBA superstar LeBron James “might be a racist” while responding to questions about who he considers the greatest basketball player of all time.
Trump made the remark during a White House news conference on Friday after James announced he would continue his NBA career with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Asked to choose between Michael Jordan and James as basketball’s greatest player, Trump praised Jordan, describing him as a friend with whom he regularly plays golf.
“I think LeBron is, maybe he’s a racist, but maybe he doesn’t like Trump. I don’t know. I only like people that like me, so I would say Michael Jordan all the way,” the president said.
James has not publicly responded to Trump’s latest comments.
The four-time NBA champion has long been one of Trump’s most outspoken critics. During Trump’s previous presidency, James endorsed Democratic candidates including Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, and in 2017 referred to Trump as “a bum” following a dispute over White House invitations for NBA championship-winning teams.
James, 41, is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in basketball history. He has won four NBA championships with the Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers, earned four NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards, and holds the league’s all-time records for points scored and games played.
The basketball icon announced on Friday that he will join the Philadelphia 76ers as he pursues a fifth NBA title. The move adds him to a star-studded roster featuring Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and Jaylen Brown.
In a statement shared on social media, James expressed confidence that he could help lead the 76ers to an NBA championship.
